Welcome to our Secret Garden!
|
Nestled in the fertile Ourika valley at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, close enough for a visit yet light years away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
This enchanting farm has been lovingly restored by two artists to create an intimate Moroccan country retreat that blends Berber tradition with modern comfort. The ancient garden cocoons you with its colours and sweet smells - of roses, jasmine, lavender, scented night stock… whilst our trees bear lemons, oranges, pomegranates, quince, pears, plums, nectarines and even grapes! It is a working farm producing fine olive oil and organic kitchen vegetables and fruit. We have sheep, goats and chickens that give the best free range breakfast eggs. Keeping them company in the olive grove are Humphrey and Bogart our two pet camels. All this is looked after by Ali our Berber farmer and his happy local team.
Sidi Abdellah Ghiate, the local village, and the canal road that leads to it, is a popular area for more discerning foreign residents who want to exchange the intensity of town for the tranquility of the countryside but still within striking distance of Marrakech. A number of international personalities from politics to entertainment are choosing this delightful area to create a second home. Nearby there are a growing number of quality country hotels and good restaurants such as the Hotel Fellah ( a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World also housing the Fellah Wat Po Thai massage centre ); Dar al-Ma’Mun, an international cultural centre recognised by UNESCO; Ecolodge Quaryate; the stunning Kasbah Bab Ourika...and many more.
From the property one can go riding in the Atlas mountains, trekking, quad biking, walk or cycle through the maze of local farm tracks, even take a romantic balloon trip at sunrise. The Royal Golf and Amelkis Golf are 25 minutes away and are of an international standard.
The area is renowned for its fertile soil and clean mountain waters - we drink the spring water from our own well! Thus it is an area with many plant nurseries and fresh local produce. The large Ourika Monday market is 20 minutes away where all the local mountain people come once a week to sell their wares, and the local Sidi Abdellah Ghiat Sunday market 5 minutes down the road. Each is a treat, not only for provisions but also to see the still-vibrant old ways of the Berber community.
Marrakech medina with its famous Place J’ma Al F’na and its maze of souks is also only half an hour by car. There you will also find shops, supermarkets, a full range of restaurants and hotels, as well as many places to party... everyone can be catered for!
Alternatively just find a shaded spot by the pool, in the garden or in the 90 year old olive grove, kick back and relax while Ali pours you a mint tea or something stronger. There is plenty to do, or absolutely nothing. You choose.
There are no crowds here. The farmhouse is built on one storey with traditional thick mud walls and offers three charming double four-poster bedrooms, a four-poster bed Berber tent amidst the olives, and one very large master suite with its own private walled garden with swimming pool. Five bedrooms in total. All rooms are en suite and have individual terraces outside. There is additional space to make further rooms if required. Add to this a library and a vast and magical living room with sitting areas, dining and home cinema. Central heating and air con are built in. The view from the roof over a sea of olive groves and on to the Atlas mountains is stunning. The house covers an area of approximately 700m2, in its own garden of 7,000m2, and the olive grove covers a further 4 hectares. It is for sale fully furnished and is decorated with originality and charm, an eclectic mix of furniture and artefacts gathered by its globe trotting owners. You the buyer can live in complete comfort from day one.
For those who want to escape the madness this is the place to be.
